Headteacher's Welcome

It is my pleasure to warmly welcome you to Ysgol Emrys ap Iwan, a happy and vibrant school located on the north Wales coastline serving the small market town of Abergele and wider communities in Kinmel Bay, Bodelwyddan, Towyn and beyond.

We have a long-established reputation for traditional values, high academic achievement, exceptional support, care and guidance whilst providing an outstanding overall learner experience. 

Underpinning our belief that every child should be happy to thrive and achieve their ambition, is our school motto of Dare to Achieve. 

The opportunity to educate other people’s children is a rare privilege, bringing with it a huge responsibility. A responsibility to provide the best all-round education possible as we aim to prepare young people for happiness and success in their adult lives. At Ysgol Emrys ap Iwan we take this responsibility extremely seriously. We care about the individual and unapologetically foster the warmth of a community in which all our learners feel valued.

We are well known for being a ‘school with a heart’ and this is shown by our excellent relationships between the staff and the learners and between the learners themselves. Through the 5-Ways-to-Wellbeing, we promote positive mental health with our learners. Visitors to our school are always impressed by our learners and their outstanding attitude towards their learning, how they wear their uniform with pride and how they conduct themselves both in and out of lessons.

We have a strong track record in supporting learners to access university through strong outcomes in our sixth form and marvel at the continued success of our alumni.

I am very proud and privileged to be the new Headteacher of Ysgol Emrys ap Iwan. I am extremely fortunate to work with a dedicated team of staff, learners, parents and governors. It is only through this collaboration that this positive atmosphere can be achieved, and we can achieve our vision of a school where everyone is ‘Daring to Achieve’.
